Roti to biryani. Counted.
Track Indian food without guessing.
Katori knows your soya chaap, dal makhani, masala dosa, chole bhature and palak paneer.
Snap your thali. Katori identifies the dishes, estimates portions, and calculates calories and macros, built specifically for Indian food.
Built for roti, dal, paneer, biryani, dosa, and everything in between.
Why Katori
Generic trackers were trained on sandwiches and salads. Point them at a thali and they guess. Katori is an Indian food calorie counter built the other way round, starting from a dish database made for desi meals, so the numbers match what you actually ate.
Roti isn't bread. Dal isn't lentil soup. Paneer isn't tofu. A katori isn't a cup.
Soya chaap
Logged as grilled chickenPlant protein with its own macros, nothing like chicken
Paneer
Logged as tofuMore than triple the calories of tofu
Ghee
Not logged at allAbout 112 calories a tablespoon, invisible to most trackers
And when Katori is not sure, it asks. One tap to confirm, two to correct.
We checked 11 Indian dishes and found the published numbers are often wrong. See the data audit.
The receipts
We checked the numbers. Most of the internet is wrong.
Nutrition sites disagree wildly on Indian food. We rebuilt the numbers from the recipe up, and published where the common figures fall apart.
| Dish | Commonly quoted | Katori |
|---|---|---|
| Soya chaap protein | 18 to 20 g | about 9 g |
| Dal makhani | 90 to 300 cal | 220 cal |
| Paneer butter masala | 180 to 350 cal | 360 cal |
| Roti | 68 to 140 cal | 110 cal |
| Aloo paratha | 150 to 400+ cal | 280 cal / medium (ghee) |
Every number traces to a stated recipe and a public source, USDA FoodData Central.

How it works
Three steps. No spreadsheet energy.
An Indian macro tracker that does the arithmetic for you: calories, protein, carbs and fat, from one photo.
- 01
Snap the plate
Snap it, scan a barcode, or add it by hand. Katori reads every dish at once, no logging one ingredient at a time.

- 02
See your whole day
Calories, macros, and your thali balance ring, updated the moment a meal goes in.

- 03
Set goals that fit you
Targets built around how you actually eat, not a template borrowed from a Western diet.

Accurate when it can be. Honest when it cannot. Kind either way.
Why it sticks
Easy to log. Hard to quit.
Logging takes seconds. The game is what brings you back tomorrow.
How you log
Snap, scan or type
Photo for a home-cooked thali, barcode for a packaged snack, or type it in. Logging takes seconds.
How you log
Home, restaurant or dhaba-style
Same dish, different kitchen, different calories. Pick where it was cooked and the numbers follow the ghee.
How you log
Private by design
Meal photos are analyzed, then discarded. Never stored, never sold, never used for ads.
Why you stay
Streaks that forgive
Miss a day and the streak bends, not breaks. Earn freezes as you level up for the days life gets busy.
Why you stay
A dhaba that grows with you
Log daily and your dhaba grows, from a clay chulha to a full roadside dhaba with your name on the board.
Why you stay
Friends, not leaderboards
Visit a friend's dhaba, leave a chai, keep a streak going together. Nobody is ranked, and nobody sees your meals.
The app
See Katori in action
One photo of your thali, and Katori reads every dish on it, works out the portions, and keeps your macros honest all day.

The founder
Built by someone who eats this food

Katori was built by Shivam Verma, an international student who got tired of guessing the macros in his mom's dal. Every tracker was built for a Western plate. So he built one for ours. Read the full story.
